I was recently contacted by Becky at Skills Service Peterborough who asked if I could help at their next Duck Production Day, this time at Peterborough Academy on 5th May. I had a brilliant time purchasing hundreds of ducks at Ken Stimpson School in March that I jumped at the chance to be involved in this event again.

The duck production event is aimed at school children and teaches them about business in the real world. The children are taught how to make paper ducks and can then purchase paper and rent coloured pens to create their own ducks to sell to the businesses. I will be one of the businesses that will be purchasing ducks, as I was before.

Each day of business lasts around 10minutes and students can only buy and sell during set times, they are then given bills such as office rent, wages and such like. They can then be given fines for speeding (running around) or rewards for being nice to buyers, at the end of the few hours the profits are counted up and the winning team is announced.

This is the second time I have been involved in this event and I shall be at the school for the full day as extra volunteers are needed and I am more than happy to be involved.

The impact you make on the children is huge, you can see them improve in confidence every sales pitch and you really see them grow as they learn new things about the business world.

To have the chance in improving the lives and learning of school children is huge and this is why I was only too happy to be involved and why I am proud to be a Skills Service Champion for over 2 years now.

If you would like to get involved with this event or a similar event then please contact Becky Cook or a member of the Skills Service team who will be only too happy to tell you more.
