Write Website Content For Lazy People

As harsh and upsetting as it may sound, the visitor to your website doesn’t want to make a great deal of effort when it comes to reading your text. The visitor to your website wants to get what they want quickly and easily, not spending ages trying to find what they’re looking for or make sense of what you have written.

We have put together some top tips to help you write website content for lazy people;

  • Try and use shorter sentences, aiming for around twelve words per sentence on average.
  • Aim for shorter paragraphs too so they are easily skim-able, ideally you want four sentences per paragraph.
  • Skip unnecessary words, don’t just put in words for the sake of it – keep the content relevant.
  • Don’t use jargon to try and make yourself look clever, it will just put the reader off and make you less approachable.
  • Needless repetition is never needed in website content so avoid it at all costs
  • When writing website content choose if you will write ‘what we can do for you’ or ‘what we can do for our client’ and stick to it throughout the content, don’t chop and change.
  • Try and keep it short and snappy, Google says 300-600 words per page of your website so try to stick to that as a guide.

When a visitor comes to your website they want to find exactly what they are looking for quickly, they don’t want to have to trawl through content but instead they want to be lazy and pretty much have what they are looking for jump out at them. If it doesn’t jump out at them they’ll close down your website page and go straight to your competitor.

If you need help with your content or you’d like us to review your content then let us know, we’re always happy to offer advice and guidance in any way we can.
