Your Social Signals Are Important To Google

Your Social Signals Are Important To Google

There may be a few confusing points in the title, so let’s cover those first. When we say something is important to Google we mean it is to do with SEO (search engine optimisation) and will help you rank higher on search engines, such as Google). When we talk about social signals we mean social activity that is connected to your website and can be tracked by Google.

Does that make more sense?

Basically speaking, Google will look at how many times other people have shared links to your website through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, etc. For example, the first social signal would be a link you post o Facebook and ongoing social signals would be people sharing this link and using it to click through to your website. Some people would call this ‘link-building’ as you are building links on other sites that point to your own website.

According to SEO industry leaders such as MOZ, these social signals can be measured as a ‘direct impact’ factor within SEO. Very simply speaking, the power of social signals helps with the SEO of your website and a high amount of social signals pointing towards your website will help the ranking of your website. Many social media experts and SEO industry leaders agree that social signals are a safe bet to climbing the Google search engines.

It’s super important that you have good quality content to start with, give something to your fans and followers that they like and therefore want to share. Sharing is caring, so give them something they care about that they can share.

You can improve your social signals by blogging once or twice a week, 300-600 word articles and sharing them on your website. Put social media plug-ins and links and buttons on your website so people can follow you and share your stuff much easier.
