Very often at networking events in Peterborough I am asked for top blogging tips, simple blogging tips and the very basic blogging tips so people can understand what is need of a blog post and how they should go about writing one.

When I start to list the basics to people I talk to I see them frantically scribbling down what I say, but wouldn’t it be easier if I just said, “Tell you what, give me your card and I will send you a link to the blog I have written about it!”? Well that is exactly what I have decided to do!

First Tip

Think about what you want to say, don’t just blog for the sake of blogging. Think about your keywords and the search terms you want to be found for on Google and write a blog post about that search term. Alternatively look at your Google Analytics to see what search terms you are being found for and use those as blog post titles.

Second Tip

Use 1 or 2 of those keywords / search terms at least 1 to 3 times in your blog post, doing it more than this can make the content look spammy but by doing it not only are you clearly showing Google what words you would like to rank for in the search engines but you are also giving yourself a chance for internal linking to other pages – this is another thing Google loves.

Third Tip

Try and ensure the blog post is 300-600 words as a minimum, that’s roughly three quarters of an A4 page in font size 11 or 12, or around 4-6 paragraphs. If it is less than this then Google robots feel it is not a page worthy of sending people to (in simple terms), but if it is too in depth (over 1000 words) the visitor will get bored and go elsewhere and this will reflect badly in your SEO.

Those are my top three tips when it comes to blogging – if you have any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always happy to help!
